There are 3 main types of Saltwater pearls and these are Akoya, South Sea , and Tahitian {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl}.
South Sea pearls are cultivated in a variety of places -- Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines , Thailand and Burma (now Myanmar).
